Where My BIG Dreams Began
When I graduated from Coe College in 2005 with my Bachelors in Business Administration and Economics, I had huge dreams of success for myself. I was a single mother of a four-year-old and I was determined to provide the life that both of us had been longing for. I started out my journey in a small investment services corporation as an Administrative Assistant – my dream was to establish a career in the financial service industry. At the time, I needed a salary, not a commission position, so selling was not an option. After nearly one year, I decided that my degree was not being put to good use doing menial tasks so, I moved on to my next endeavor. My next endeavor was an Assistant Manager of a local gymnastics club. This position was a great fit because of my business education and my absolute LOVE for gymnastics. My circumstances changed when I married my husband in July 2006 and I got pregnant with our second child in October 2007.
The “New” Dream
My husband and I made the decision to bring me home to be with our children after I gave birth to our son in July 2008. I took an online course in Medical Transcription and set out to find a company that would allow me to transcribe from my home. After many months of searching, it was apparent that you had to know someone in the industry, be very lucky, or have experience to get such a position.
For awhile I “gave up” on my dreams for career success. I was busy being a wife, mom, housekeeper, chef, taxi cab driver, etc. I began looking for a legitimate at-home career in the summer of 2009. I requested information from several different companies. They called me and told me about their miracle money making strategies. I never felt a spark light up inside me. I had already tried to make it selling Mary Kay and failed. I wanted to be home with my kids, not in someone else’s home doing parties to sell $150 worth of make-up for a $75 profit.
From Hopeless to Having a DREAM
In January of 2010 I filled out yet another online application to have someone call me about a home-based position. I received a call from a wonderful woman named Lisa. Lisa conducted a phone interview to get to know me better and then told me about a network marketing company that offered discount health/dental programs nationwide. I saw my previous dreams of working in a financial industry flash before my eyes. Still a skeptic of home-based businesses, I took a few days to research the company, their services, and talk to my husband. On January 8, 2010 I jumped into the company with both feet. I trained in a few days and started marketing my business. There were several pitfalls in my first home-based career which ultimately led to it’s collapse. One big pitfall was starting a home-based business during an economic recession. Not only did home-business owners feel the recession, but so did the corporation. Selling discount health programs to people who have been promised “Obamacare” is next to impossible because they know it is only a matter of time before the government will provide healthcare. Finally, at some point along the way, I lost my passion for the services I was offering.
Setting NEW Goals and Achieving New Dreams
I built a network of friends along the road with my first company so, I reached out to those people and found a new company and product that I could believe in. Being a gymnast and having a daughter in competitive gymnastics, I am a HUGE believer in health, wellness and nutrition. I know that we truly have an obesity epidemic in the United States and I would like to reach out to help people to not only lose the weight, but to change their lifestyle and feel better about themselves. I am feeling ALIVE again – inside and out. I am no longer just a wife, mom, housekeeper, chef and taxi cab driver (although my home-business allows me to do these things too), but I am a healthy, successful MOMPreneur, Work at Home Mom, and Online Marketer.
